Chiropractors in Birmingham

Fact: Did you know that there are over 200 techniques or methods that chiropractors in Birmingham can choose from in order to detect and treat your condition?

The most common treatment is a form of joint manipulation known as the “diversified chiropractic technique”. It involves testing the quality of motion of a joint (where two bones meet) to determine if it is restricted. The treatment is to administer a quick and firm force which usually involves twisting, pulling or pushing a bone to attempt to get a release. This type of treatment is also known as “High-Velocity Low-Amplitude” joint manipulation.

Unfortunately, testing the quality of motion in a joint has been shown to be unreliable (https://bit.ly/34QuWbm). When I used to practice this way, I also would be frustrated with this method as sometimes it seemed to help, other times it did not help, and often it would hurt people!

Chiropractors in Birmingham also use many other methods to treat the joints including Sacro-Occipital Technique, Gonstead technique, Toggle, Thompson Drop, etc.

Several years ago, when I was researching why these methods were so unreliable, I found that they all had something in common which prevented them from addressing the root cause consistently. Although they were working on the skeleton (which is the right thing to do), they were going about it the wrong way.

I learned what seemed to actually cause joints to become stiff, or hypermobile, or unstable, or swollen, or have dysfunctional movement. The reason was:

A bone out of place in a direction that the body could not self-correct because there were no muscles or combination of muscles that could pull the bone back into alignment.

This meant that unless a treatment involves identifying exactly;

  1. which bones are out of place,
  2. the direction they are out of place,
  3. the exact method to correct each bone
  4. the correct order to perform the manipulations

you would find that your results would be inconsistent and are not tackling the underlying problem. These other methods were being misled by areas of the body that were compensating for the primary misalignment. These other areas were often the site of pain, stiffness, swelling and poor movement but they had become that way as they were overworked.

Manipulation of these “compensating bones/joints” can give short term relief but only the exact correction of the primary misalignments will resolve the issue for good. When you treat the correct area, you always get a positive result; no more results where there is no benefit and no more making the situation worse.

Physiotherapists, sports therapists, osteopaths, GPs, orthopaedic specialists, and chiropractors in Birmingham are generally all focussing on compensations and not on the underlying cause which is driving the problem.

Generally, I now find that symptoms can be misleading; e.g. where it hurts is not the site of the actual issue.

Treating Compensations

When a bone becomes out of place in a direction the body cannot self-correct, the natural and usual response is for the body to begin to twist, torque and bend to compensate for the imbalance caused by the bone out of place.

This compensating behaviour results in the pulling on and stressing of the tissues and organs of the body such as the nervous system, muscles, joints, organs, and vascular system.

This ultimately leads to the production and presentation of symptoms in the body such as joint and muscle pain, poor posture, pins and needles/numbness, weakness, difficulty breathing, brain fog, osteoarthritis and more.

These compensations are not the site of the actual injury. The true origin is a bone or bones out of place in a direction that the body cannot self-correct.

These compensations are what almost everyone else in the medical and non-medical profession focuses on in their treatment and not the true cause or origin. Examples of a site of compensation are tight muscles, sore/swollen joints, slipped discs, hard/calloused skin, etc.

Treating these areas can provide short term relief but unless you tackle the root of the problem, it will not improve your overall health the long term.

Aside from not tackling the underlying issue, releasing compensations makes it harder for your body to cope with the primary injury. Your body is intelligent and the compensations are there for a reason. This is why you often need to keep repeating the treatment – you are fighting against your body. Messing with compensations can make you worse!

An alternative to chiropractors in Birmingham

Treating the bones out of place correctly is what sets Advanced BioStructural Correction™ apart from every other physical treatment modality, and is what makes it so unique and effective when applied correctly. This is why we only use this method in our clinic and it sets us apart from other chiropractors in Birmingham.

Another unique aspect of the treatment is the releasing of scar tissue that builds up inside the spinal canal called “meningeal adhesions”. This is done with very specific stretches to the spine itself.

Treatment with Advanced BioStructural Correction ™ results in rapid symptom relief throughout the body and posture correction. The aim being, to not only to resolve the symptoms but to reverse the underlying condition and return your body back to normal.

In a survey conducted of our clients in 2019, we found:

  1. 98% rate our treatment effective
  2. 100% noticed posture improvement
  3. 96% had symptom improvement
  4. 91% noticed better breathing
  5. 95% benefitted from better movement, focus, energy, sleep mood and productivity.
  6. 99% would recommend us to others

Compared to the results I had been getting with previous methods and current competing techniques and professions, this is astoundingly effective and consistent!
